Dominic Barnes

ACTING CENTRE MANAGER

Dom has worked in outdoor education since he was 16. Dom’s core values centre around developing each and every person and encouraging everyone to reach their potential. As acting head of centre, Dom has an intimate knowledge of all areas of our operation and would be happy to answer any queries you may have about the centre. In his spare time he races a beautiful, old, wooden sailing boat.

Scott Mabbutt

SENIOR INSTRUCTOR

Scott has been working in outdoor education for the past 27 years. During that time he has worked in several outdoor education centres.  Scott is a specialist in paddle sports and is an active kayaker, having paddled throughout the UK and Europe. He also has a keen interest in mountain biking. Over this period of time Scott has built up an extensive range of national governing body awards.

Pete Orrin

SENIOR INSTRUCTOR

Throughout Pete’s 29 years of working in the outdoor environment his experience has included positions such as Centre Principal (Essex), Corporate Events Manager (Lake District) and School Outdoor Tutor (New Zealand). Having been a RYA Inspector over the last 15 years, one of Pete’s roles is to visit other outdoor education centres and clubs, ensuring they are meeting the Royal Yachting Association requirements. Pete’s pastimes include sailing, where he races competitively. He also has a passion for rugby, and has  played for a number of different clubs. Pete has now been working for Fairplay House for over 20 years.

Jane Richardson

INSTRUCTOR/TUTOR

Jane is the newest member of our team and brings with her a wealth of experience from her years volunteering with Cubs, Scouts and Sea Scouts and as a sailing instructor for the Dabchicks Sailing Club on the Essex Coast. Jane’s previous role as a teacher of Art and Design is helping the centre broaden its work and approach to Outdoor Education. Jane is passionate about the Arts, History and the ‘Great Outdoors’. On her days off she likes to swim and race her sailing boat . Qualifications:
